Why won’t it just go away? I’m referring to the live-action, Americanized version of AKIRA. I secretly keep hoping that I’ll never have to hear news on this again, but the Hollywood cog keeps turning.
ORPHAN and UNKNOWN director Jaume Collet-Serra has been tapped to helm the live-action AKIRA. Early on Albert Hughes (THE BOOK OF ELI) was attached to direct but later exited the project due to creative issues.
Several writers have contributed drafts over time and Steve Kloves (HARRY POTTER, THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN) is the latest to take a stab at it.
Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way are producing the film. Katsuhiro Otomo creator of AKIRA will serve as executive producer.
I don’t think I’d be as against this if they weren’t trying to completely shit on it. Hire some Japanese actors and keep the characters the same age. But I will stop my ranting since I’ve been down this road several times before.
