THR has learned Jason Sudeikis is very close to becoming the new Fletch for Warner Bros. in FLETCH WON. The project has been in development for a long time with multiple directors and actors either attached or rumored to be interested (with the most famous probably being Kevin Smith), and it looks like Warner Bros. may have finally found their Fletch.
The studio also has their fingers crossed the film will be the start of a new comedy franchise. FLETCH WON will be an origins story, and will apparently be more like the Gregory McDonald novels ("gritty action comedy with heart") than the original movies starring Chevy Chase as investigative reporter Irwin Fletcher. David List (a representative for the McDonalds estate) is producing FLETCH WON with Anonymous Content's Steve Golin and Michael Sugar.
I love Jason Sudeikis, and I think he'll make a great Fletch, if he joins the film. But since we've been hearing about a new FLETCH movie for almost two decades, I won't be convinced this is actually happening until filming starts. Warner Bros. and the producers still need to find a director, and if they have some issues finding one, it could be another very long wait before we hear anything else about this project. However, if Jason Sudeikis officially signs on, I think things will move a little faster for FLETCH WON.
What are your thoughts on Jason Sudeikis as Fletch, and who do you think should direct FLETCH WON?
