Director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon is trying to land Jason Segel for his ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL follow-up, according to Variety. The site has learned Segel is in talks to join PAN actors Hugh Jackman and Rooney Mara in COLLATERAL BEAUTY, although the deal is reportedly still in the early stages.
Gomez-Rejon will be directing from a script by SAN ANDREAS and THINGS WE LOST IN THE FIRE screenwriter Allan Loeb, and production is expected to begin this fall. COLLATERAL BEAUTY will follow "a New York advertising executive who experiences a deep personal tragedy. His colleagues devise an unconventional means of breaking him out of his depression, which works, but not in a way that anyone imagined."
Alfonso Gomez-Rejon's ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL had a very enthusiastic response when it premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, and has received high marks from most critics. JoBlo.com's Chris Bumbray gave it a 9/10, and in case you missed it, you can check out JimmyO's interview with the director and stars Thomas Mann, RJ Cyler and Olivia Cooke from earlier this month here.
Jason Segel can be seen next as author David Foster Wallace in James Ponsoldt's THE END OF THE TOUR, which opens on July 31, 2015, and Hugh Jackman and Rooney Mara's PAN will be in theaters on October 9, 2015.
