For years, it's been easy for the general public to dismiss Aquaman, after all, who's going to take a man in sparkly orange and green spandex who talks to fish seriously? Thankfully, Warner Bros. took a big step towards putting that attitude to rest for once and for all when they hired Jason Momoa to play Aquaman. We caught a brief glimpse of Momoa's Aquaman in BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, but our first real exposure to the character will arrive in Zack Snyder's JUSTICE LEAGUE, after which, we'll see more of Aquaman's world in his solo-film to be directed by James Wan (THE CONJURING).
Production on AQUAMAN is due to kick off in a few months, but James Wan recently gathered his cast together (Jason Momoa, Amber Heard and Patrick Wilson) for a table read and commemorated the occasion by posting this photo on Twitter.
It's not much, but it's great to see this cast together for the first time. Jason Momoa will of course be playing Aquaman, with Amber Heard playing Mera and Patrick Wilson playing the villainous Ocean Master. We still don't know all that much about AQUAMAN's story, but James Wan has said that he's hoping to give the film an old-fashioned adventure feel.
I kind of don't want to give too much away but know this: The spirit that I'm going for is like a classic sort of swashbuckling action adventure, sort of high seas adventure story, it's ultimately a quest story in the spirit of Raiders of the Lost Ark meets Romancing the Stone.
AQUAMAN is set for a October 5, 2018 release.
