Earlier this year it was announced that CBS' new show, Star Trek: Discovery, has been pushed back to late this year or early next. A shame for fans looking forward to the franchise returning to its roots, although the following news should alleviate that pain! The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Lucius Malfoy himself, Jason Isaacs, has signed on to play none other than the captain of the Starship Discovery!
Isaac will star as Captain Lorca, and he'll be joined by Sonequa Martin-Green as lieutenant commander Rainsford, Doug Jones as science officer Saru, Anthony Rapp as science officer Stamets, James Frain as Spock's father, Sarek, Terry Serpico as Starfleet admiral Anderson, Maulik Pancholoy as chief medical officer Nambue and Sam Vartholomeos as junior Starfleet officer Connor. Michelle Yeoh has also been cast as a recurring character, Georgiu, the captain of the Shenzhou.
While CBS' streaming plans for their new Star Trek show sound like a disaster (and are hopefully reconsidered), there's no doubts that the ensemble for this show is an exciting one. The series has, more often than not, fared better in the hourly format and I hope that the new showrunners continue to push Trek in a direction that has yet to be explored.
