The release of the long-awaited sequel to Ridley Scott's 1982 sci-fi noir classic BLADE RUNNER is just over a month away, and a new trailer for the follow-up has arrived online to give us a glimpse of some new footage and to dig a little deeper into the plot.
Set thirty years after its predecessor, BLADE RUNNER 2049 was directed by Denis Villeneuve and stars Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Ana de Armas, Jared Leto, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Dave Bautista, David Dastmalchian, Lennie James, Sylvia Hoeks, Carla Juri, Hiam Abbass, Barkhad Abdi, and Edward James Olmos.
Scripted by BLADE RUNNER co-writer Hampton Fancher and ALIEN: COVENANT's Michael Green, working from a story Fancher put together with Ridley Scott, 2049 has the following synopsis:
Officer K (Gosling), a new blade runner for the Los Angeles Police Department, unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what's left of society into chaos. His discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Ford), a former blade runner who's been missing for 30 years.
The driving force in this new trailer is the villainous Neander Wallace, played by Jared Leto. Wallace is one of those villains who puts on a good public face – he's the owner of Wallace Corporations, which provides Los Angeles with genetically modified food products – while doing something evil in his private time – in this case creating an army of replicants.
While Wallace and the efforts to stop him are the focus of the trailer, it does also show more of the character who's played by KNOCK KNOCK actress Ana de Armas. She's K's girlfriend, and she seems a bit robotic…
BLADE RUNNER 2049 is scheduled to be released on October 6th.
