In Martin Zandvliet's THE OUTSIDER, Jared Leto plays Nick Lowell, an imprisoned American soldier who is released from his incarceration with the help of his Yakuza cellmate. Now that he's able to breathe fresh air, Nick sets out to earn the respect and pay his debt to the transnational syndicate while navigating their criminal underworld.
Produced by Ken Kao, John Linson, and Art Linson, with Tadanobu Asano, Kippei Shiina, Shioli Kutsuna, Emile Hirsch, Raymond Nicholson, Rory Cochrane, Nao Omori, and Min Tanaka each set to star, THE OUTSIDER is scheduled to make its Netflix debut on March 9th.
In the past, directing duties on the film had changed hands on several occasions. In the beginning, Michael Fassbender was attached to the project with Daniel Espinosa (SAFE HOUSE) in talks to direct. After the deal fell through, Japanese director Tikashi Miike (AUDITION) began circling the project with Tom Hardy in the lead. When the film conflicted with Miike's busy schedule, he dropped out, and thus began Zandvilet and Leto's decent into the world of the Yakuza.
