A surreal teaser trailer and posters arrive for Janelle Monáe’s Antebellum

I hope you're prepared for this afternoon's dose of weird, because Lionsgate's ANTEBELLUM teaser trailer is about to go Twilight Zone on your ass. The trailer begins with a black woman running at full-speed through a field while being chased by men in confederate uniforms on horseback. As a silent scream escapes her trembling lips, the sound of an airplane flying overhead can be heard, piercing the sky with overwhelming sound. As the plane cuts through the sky like a sheet, a panicked 911 operator can be heard trying to help someone on the other side of the line. It's then that I began to question the particulars of this trailer. Where are we? When are we? Have we perhaps unwittingly wandered into the "darkest timeline?"

Directred and written by Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz, ANTEBELLUM stars Janelle Monáe as Veronica, a successful author who finds herself trapped in a horrifying reality and must uncover the mind-bending mystery before it's too late.

ANTEBELLUM hails from the producers of GET OUT and US, and features Marque Richardson II, Eric Lang, Jack Huston, Kiersey Clemons, Tongayi Chirisa, Gabourey Sidibe, Rob Aramayo, Lily Cowles, and Jena Malone as the stars of this surreal and mysterious horror film.

Truth be told, I don't know which end is up after watching this trailer, though it's piqued my interest enough to want to find out.

In addition to today's teaser trailer, Lionsgate also dropped three new posters for the upcoming film. You can check them out below.

ANTEBELLUM will arrive in theaters on April 24, 2020.
