Jamie Foxx has been making sporadic appearances since suffering a “medical complication” back in April. But a special honor has put him back on the stage, giving a speech in which he expressed his gratitude and shared his experience with attendees.
Jamie Foxx – who was being honored with the Vanguard Award at the Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of Cinema & Television Honoring Black, Latino & AAPI Achievements – delivered a ~12-minute speech at the event (as per Deadline), saying, “I want to thank everybody. I’ve been through something, I’ve been through some things.” Those things still remain shrouded in mystery, but it is great to see Foxx back in the spotlight, especially since he wasn’t even able to walk six months ago. The award was given by Jurnee Smollett, co-star of The Burial, in which Foxx played lawyer Willie E. Gary.
Adding to his emotions and what he has learned after his incident, Jamie Foxx said, “I cherish every single minute now — it’s different…I wouldn’t wish what I went through on my worst enemy because it’s tough when it’s almost over … when you see the tunnel. I saw the tunnel — I didn’t see the light.”
Jamie Foxx would spend time in the hospital and undergo physical rehab following his complication. While his daughter, Corinne, served as spokesperson on behalf of her father, it has been the actor’s own remarks and various public outings that have been more encouraging for fans.
Despite having a number of releases out this year, Jamie Foxx hasn’t been able to be on the promotional circuit as he usually is or even enjoy red carpet events as frequently, missing out on the premiere of They Cloned Tyrone.
Next year, Jamie Foxx has Tin Soldier alongside Robert De Niro, animated film Groove Tails and Back in Action, the movie he was shooting when he was hospitalized. That movie also marks Cameron Diaz’s return to the big screen for the first time since 2014. Foxx and Diaz previously worked together on Annie and Any Given Sunday.
