Since coming ashore in theaters around the world on December 21st, James Wan's AQUAMAN starring Jason Momoa and Amber Heard has netted a Atlantean king's share of dollars for its barnacle-covered coffers. As of today, Box Office Mojo states that DC's oceanic adventure has earned a worldwide total of $596,215,000 at the box office, with the film expected to surpass $600 million by Saturday morning. That's a mighty impressive haul. Especially when you consider that, not too long ago, Arthur Curry was little more than "the Justice League member who talks to fish" for some. Granted, Momoa's rough and tumble version of the character ain't your Daddy's Aquaman, though perhaps it's for the best. I'm sure Warner Bros. thinks so, as they continue to fan themselves with Aquaman-printed cash.
Here's the thing though. AQUAMAN isn't done holding other film releases beneath sea level just yet. According to a new report by Forbes, the aquatic avenger's first solo movie could hit the $1 billion mark at the box office, before the tide washes it out of theaters. When inspecting the dollars-earned-breakdown for the film, we find that AQUAMAN has pulled $105 million in North America, which includes a massive $22 million earned on Christmas Day, in addition to nearly $600 million globally. Assuming that the movie continues to rock ticket printers like Jason Momoa and company rock the Haka, it's likely that AQUAMAN will have earned more than $700 million by the close of next weekend. Oh, and then there's New Year's Eve and New Year's Day earnings to consider as well. Essentially, if AQUAMAN remains on course, it could soon become one of the DCEU's top three earners alongside BATMAN V SUPERMAN and WONDER WOMAN.
As you're likely to know, AQUAMAN tells the story of how Arthur Curry learns that he is the heir to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, and must step forward to lead his people and be a hero to the world. DC's action-packed and hyper-visual underwater adventure stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Orm, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus and Nicole Kidman as Queen Atlanna. The movie is currently charting a course for success at theaters around the world. Go see it today and help add to the film's already immense totals, why don't cha?
