After the monstrous success of FURIOUS 7 this year, director James Wan is very much in demand. He was scooped up to direct AQUAMAN for Warner Bros. as well as Sony's ROBOTECH, but both of those films will have to wait until he's finished with THE CONJURING 2: THE ENDFIELD EXPERIMENT.
As Wan is obviously not busy enough, The Tracking Board is reporting that the director will be producing the MORTAL KOMBAT reboot from New Line Cinema. The reboot has been in the works for several years with not much to show for it, but hopefully bringing James Wan on board will get things moving forward and enable them to "finish it." That was really stupid Kevin. The script for MORTAL KOMBAT, which is being described as "a departure from the mythology, with darker, brutally real martial arts," is underway from Oren Uziel (MORTAL KOMBAT: LEGACY) and Dave Callaham (THE EXPENDABLES).
The synopsis, according to TB:
[MORTAL KOMBAT] centers around a seemingly harmless guy who realizes his potential when he finds himself caught in the middle of a cross-dimensional battle between the warriors of Earth and the monsters of Outworld. Now, in order to stop the world from total destruction, he must win the martial arts tournament known as ‘Mortal Kombat’.
James Wan's next, THE CONJURING 2: THE ENDFIELD EXPERIMENT is set for a June 10, 2016 release.
