Like many of you, I was a fan of James Wan's THE CONJURING, and I was stoked to hear that Wan would be returning to the director's chair for the upcoming sequel, which is set to arrive in theaters on June 10, 2016.
Wan is just coming off of FURIOUS 7 and is keen on returning to the genre on which he cut his teeth for THE CONJURING 2. The folks at Collider recently got the opportunity to speak with Wan at the press junket for FURIOUS 7, where Wan shared his excitement for the horror sequel, stating…
“I’ve been working very heavily on the script, and the idea of continuing the saga of Ed and Lorraine Warren is actually very exciting. So the idea of going back to kind of nurture my baby that I created is part of the reason why I’m going back to do The Conjuring 2. And in some ways it’ll be like a holiday break for me after this film.”
Wan had previously shared his enthusiasm for the project, sharing how inspiration for the sequel came during work on FURIOUS 7, stating…
“It was during the editing of Fast & Furious 7 that my brain started sparking ideas for The Conjuring sequel. Taking a break from horror has allowed me to be creatively rejuvenated. I’m excited to tell the story of the next case-file of Ed & Lorraine Warren and expand on this world we’ve created.”
Wan said that production will begin later this year, in anticipation of the film’s June 10, 2016 release date. ORPHAN and WRATH OF THE TITANS scribe David Leslie Johnson has been hired to rewrite THE CONJURING 2. Peter Safran will produce for The Safran Company along with Wan. New Line executives Dave Neustadter and Walter Hamada will oversee the project for the studio.
