According to a report from Deadline, Netflix is entering into a partnership with AQUAMAN director James Wan and STRANGER THINGS producer 21 Laps for what is being hailed as a coming-of-age slasher film entitled THERE'S SOMEONE INSIDE YOUR HOUSE.
As an adaptation of the bestselling young-adult novel of the same name by Stephanie Perkins, THERE'S SOMEONE INSIDE YOUR HOUSE shares a chilling tale centered around a girl whose high school classmates, one by one, begin to die in a series of increasingly gruesome murders.
Here's the official synopsis for Perkin's novel:
More than a year after her parents sent her away from Hawaii to live with her grandmother in landlocked Nebraska, Makani Young is still adjusting to her new life. She’s made a small group of close friends and even flirted with romance, but her past in Hawaii is still hard to forget. And then … one by one the students of her new high school begin to die in a series of gruesome murders. Makani doesn’t know who’s next on the list. Between this, and a secret scorching relationship with the school weirdo, this school year may turn out to be one to die for … literally.
A coming-of-age slasher, you say? Is it just me or are horror movies planning on making a big comeback in 2018? Many of us are already chomping at the bit for Danny McBride's HALLOWEEN reboot starring Jamie Lee Curtis, and with films like THE NUN, A QUIET PLACE, INSIDIOUS: THE LAST KEY, POLAROID, PRIMAL RAGE on the way, it sounds as if fans of the horror genre could be in for a truly spooktcular year of entertainment.
What do you think of the concept for THERE'S SOMEONE INSIDE YOUR HOUSE? The title totally sounds like it was ripped right out of the pages of a Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, doesn't it? And what's with that "coming-of-age" bit? Will this be Wan's send-up to movies like AMERICAN GRAFFITI, THE BREAKFAST CLUB, or THE VIRGIN SUICIDES? We'll have to wait to find out, though you can mark me down as being quite interested in this promising project. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
