The Conjuring 3 will cover The Southend Werewolf?

Director James Wan (THE CONJURING and THE CONJURING 2) recently announced he was passing THE CONJURING 3 directing duties to Michael Chaves, who made his feature debut on the Wan production THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA (which isn't part of the Conjuring Universe). Details on David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick's THE CONJURING 3 script have not been revealed, but Vera Farmiga said recently she heard the script

has something to do with some werewolf case. I was given a book by Lorraine and Tony, her son-in-law, who has moved into the Ed Warren position in that family, and there’s a book called ‘Werewolf.’ But I’ve not read it yet, so I am sure the answers are in that.

And today it looks like we have some further confirmation on what we can expect to see once the third entry in THE CONJURING series lands in the future. The update comes straight from Wan himself so I guess that means we can take it with more than a grain of salt.

Wan says:

It’s based on one of the Warrens’ case files. It’s this guy who was on trial for committing a murder. I think it’s the first time in America’s history where the defendant used possessions as a reason, as an excuse. All the Conjuring films are based on the case files, so they’re more based on the true story aspect of the real life Warrens. I think that’s important. It’s important that the mothership stays true to the inspiration of the real people. The spinoffs are where we get to have more fun and do weird and wonderful crazy things. The mothership of it being the Conjuring films, we want it to come back to the real stuff.

All of this sounds like THE CONJURING 3 will be taking on Bill Ramsey aka The Southend Werewolf, doesn't it? Sounds good to us! But speaking of THE CONJURING 3, and THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA director Michael Chaves, Wan also went on to explain why he chose Chaves to take the reins of the third Conjuring film.

He definitely did [impress me]. I feel like he’s this young up and coming filmmaker in this world. He’s a guy that understands how these films work. He’s really great working with actors and I feel like that’s something I want and need to work with, someone that people like Patrick and Vera would feel comfortable with.

Well, if Wan whole-heartedly supports Chaves as director, then I guess all of us do to, right? I guess we'll have a better idea once Chaves' THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA reaches theatres on April 19, 2019. We'll keep you updated on THE CONJURING 3 as it moves toward production.er
