Just the other day, we learned that Sony is aiming to get the long-awaited reboot of MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE into theatres on March 5, 2021. Close on the heels of that news comes the announcement that Warner Bros. has scheduled the long-awaited, James Wan-produced reboot of MORTAL KOMBAT for a March 5, 2021 release.
I don't think there's any chance that Sony and Warner Bros. are going to stick to the idea of releasing MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE and MORTAL KOMBAT against each other, so look for one of these to shift dates on the way.
MORTAL KOMBAT will be the feature directorial debut for award-winning commerical director Simon McQuoid, who will be working from a screenplay written by Greg Russo and based on the video game franchise about
a diverse range of fighters hailing from eighteen different realms being pitted against one another in an epic tournament.
Russo's script centers on
a male protagonist who becomes drawn into the interdimensional tournament, and who begins to realize his true potential as a result of the experience.
Wan is producing the film with Todd Garner. Larry Kasanoff, E. Bennett Walsh, Michael Clear, and Sean Robins serve as executive producers.
Currently in pre-production, MORTAL KOMBAT is set to begin filming in Australia later this year.
