James Wan and JOHN WICK franchise writer Derek Kolstad are teaming up for an adaptation of author Frank M. Robinson's time travel story HUNTING SEASON.
First published in the pages of Astounding Science Fiction magazine in 1951, HUNTING SEASON has the following description:
In this militaristic society of tomorrow, subversives are sent back to past ages where aristocrats hunt them for sport. Usually, the hunted are members of the lower classes. But when an aristocrat is condemned to be hunted in mid-twentieth century America, the entire fabric of society comes unraveled.
Kolstad is writing the screenplay adaptation, and the announcement of the project said the film will follow
a law officer from the future who is declared an enemy of the state and sentenced to be executed by being sent to the past and stalked by a posse. The man has three days to acclimate to his new era and find a way to survive.
Starlight and Star Plus are providing the financing for HUNTING SEASON. Wan will be producing the film with Michael Clear through their company Atomic Monster. Don Murphy and Susan Monford of Angry Films are also on board to produce. Peter Luo and Atomic's Judson Scott will serve as executive producers, with Cory Kaplan supervising for Angry Films.
It's not certain whether or not Wan will decide to direct the film himself. For now, he's only expected to produce.
I had never heard of Robinson's story before this announcement, but from the description it sounds like it has a good set-up for a fun action-thriller.
