Good afternoon, fans of Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino's Image Comics series GIDEON FALLS. Are you sitting down? I sure hope so, because some frightfully cool news related to the book's forthcoming television adaptation has just come down the wire. It's been announced that James Wan and his Atomic Monster production company will be teaming with Hivemind to bring the best-selling series to the small screen. As per the new union, Wan will executive produce the hour-long drama series alongside Atomic Monster’s Michael Clear, Hivemind’s Jason Brown, Sean Daniel, Kathy Lingg, and Dinesh Shamdasani, and original series creators Lemire and Sorrentino. Meanwhile, Rob Hackett will oversee for Atomic Monster.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the series, Gideon Falls is a character-driven exploration of obsession, shared mania, and faith. The series follows a group of seemingly random strangers – a disillusioned Catholic priest, an obstinant local sheriff, a therapist for whom the line between patient and partner blurs, and a schitzophrenic isolationst determined to uncover a mystery he belives is buried within his city's trash – as they each become a means to a new beginning for an ancient evil housed in a malevolent structure known to some as The Black Barn.
“We are very excited about James Wan and Atomic Monster joining the Gideon Falls team,” said series co-creators Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino. “James’ creative vision will be a wonderful fit for the world of Gideon Falls and to help adapt the series to television in a truly unique and exciting way.”
“To have a filmmaker of James Wan’s caliber, talent, and vision contributing to the atmospheric and terrifying world that Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino have created with Gideon Falls is nothing short of incredible,” said Hivemind co-founders Lingg, Shamdasani, and Brown. “This is a high-powered and formidable combination for one of the most acclaimed comic series of the decade, and James and his colleagues at Atomic Monster – Michael Clear and Rob Hackett – are the perfect partners to help bring our adaptation to life. Fans of Gideon Falls, rest assured: We have some incredible surprises yet in store.”
Last October, I had the distinct pleasure of conducting an exclusive interview with Lemire and Sorrentino for GIDEON FALLS, which you can read for yourself by clicking here. As a bonus, the article also showcases the first issue of Gideon Falls in its entirety. I highly recommend that you check it out, as Gideon Falls is without a doubt one of the most terrifying and tantalizing horror comic book series to come along in quite some time.
