Accomplished short film director Bishal Dutta has been tapped to direct an untitled original horror feature produced by James Wan's Atomic Monster studio. Based on a spec by Joshua Rollins, the film is set in post-apocalyptic Los Angeles. Wan and Michael Clear will act as producers on the project, while Judson Scott will executive produce.
The upcoming untitled project will serve as Dutta's feature directorial debut. having recently graduated from UC Berkeley, Dutta's first short Life In Color premiered at the Cannes Film Festival Emerging Filmmaker Showcase in 2018. In addition to his skills behind the camera, Dutta also dabbles in the art of playwriting. In fact, his Hit List script Worldbreaker has been optioned by Amasia Entertainment and Dark Castle.
While I've not seen any of Dutta's work for myself, Atomic Monster, who've produced hit horror films like Lights Out, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, Annabelle Comes Home and The Curse of La Llorona, is clearly intrigued by his burgeoning talents. As a company known for nurturing the skills of filmmakers who go on to have notable careers, such as Michael Chaves (The Curse of La Llorona) or David Sandberg (DC's Shazam!), Dutta will have a lot of eyes on his upcoming debut. Here's hoping that he takes this opportunity and runs with it.
