Amblin and James Wan will be remaking the classic 1990 spider flick ARACHNOPHOBIA. Wan will not direct the film himself although he will be guiding the remake as a producer for his Atomic Monster banner. Evidently, the remake is moving along fast enough that the producers are already looking to hire a screenwriter ASAP.
I have a HUGE spot of love in my horror-heart for the original film, which was directed by Frank Marshall. I even own the film on VHS (still). I mean not only does it star Jeff Daniels (DUMB AND DUMBER), but it also boasts a cast featuring Julian Sands (BOXING HELENA), Harley Jane Kozak (THE HOUSE ON SORORITY ROW), and of course John Goodman as the badass spider-stomper Delbert McClintock.
For those who never saw the original film, it begins:
After a nature photographer (Mark L. Taylor) dies on assignment in Venezuela, a poisonous spider hitches a ride in his coffin to his hometown in rural California, where arachnophobe Dr. Ross Jennings (Jeff Daniels) has just moved in with his wife, Molly (Harley Jane Kozak), and young son. As town residents start turning up dead, Jennings begins to suspect spiders and must face his fears as he and no-nonsense exterminator Delbert McClintock (John Goodman) fight to stop a deadly infestation.
If you’re someone who is just too afraid of spiders to give this movie a chance, let me just say, if there is ever one movie to try and fight through, it’s this one. The entertainment value is through the fucking roof and I guarantee you I will be making my girlfriend watch this later tonight. Buy it HERE.
Rock and roll.
