James McAvoy has recently hit the widest audience as a young Charles Xavier in the X-MEN franchise, but the British actor has been working in a wide array of film roles for decades. His newest role, however, goes a direction I've never seen from him, in the upcoming CLOSE ENCOUNTERS-esque sci-fi thriller EXTINCTION.
EXTINCTION follows a man haunted by nightmares in which his wife is assaulted and who becomes a hero when Earth is invaded by an army bent on destruction.
McAvoy will play a father and chief mechanic at a factory who realizes those invading might not be what he expected.
But what are they? Talking apes? Mutant Twinkies? I guess we'll see.
The script was written by Brad Caleb Kane (Marco Polo), Spenser Cohen, and Eric Heisserer (LIGHTS OUT, FINAL DESTINATION 5). The film is produced by David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman. There is currently no director attached to the project. More news as the story breaks!
