Even though X-MEN: APOCALYPSE made a fair chunk of change at the box-office, it was still considered to be a bit of an under-performer and wasn't embraced by fans nearly as much as X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST was. Fox is obviously going to keep the franchise going, but with rumblings of a franchise reboot as well as the fulfillment of Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and James McAvoy's three-picture contract, the future of the X-MEN series is still a mystery. One member of that trio is still keen on returning, as James McAvoy recently told Fandango that he'd love to return for more X-MEN movies, provided they offer him a really good part.
If they offer me a really good part, I'll be in. If it's not a very good part, then… I'll think about it. I love playing Charles, and I've always had interesting things to do with Charles, so if that continues then of course I'd love to take part in it.
Just yesterday we may have found out that McAvoy will indeed be returning for more X-MEN, as Anya Taylor-Joy let it slip that she "think[s] James is already a part of" NEW MUTANTS. The Josh Boone (THE FAULT IN OUR STARS) helmed spinoff stars Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) as Wolfsbane, Anya Taylor-Joy (THE WITCH) as Magik and Nat Wolff (THE FAULT IN OUR STARS) as Cannonball. Will James McAvoy also be involved? I suppose we'll have to wait and see. Fandango also asked the actor what he thought of LOGAN, which features Patrick Stewart in the Professor X role, and McAvoy thought it was "brilliant" although he admitted that he was jealous that he wasn't old enough to play Charles Xavier.
James McAvoy's next, SPLIT, will hit theaters on January 20, 2017.
