James McAvoy won’t be given a script when he stars in thriller My Son

James McAvoy (IT: CHAPTER TWO) is slated to star in MY SON for STXfilms, a missing person thriller that will be a remake of the 2017 French movie MON GARÇON directed by Christian Carion, but as an added twist, McAvoy will be the only member of the cast who won't be given a script or dialogue; That's certainly an interesting concept.

MY SON will find James McAvoy starring as a man whose only son goes missing, leading him to travel to the town where his ex-wife lives in search of answers to the mystery. Claire Foy (THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB) is onboard to play the ex-wife of McAvoy's character. McAvoy will only be aware of basic aspects of the story and will have to improvise and react to each moment as it unfolds. In a statement, STXfilms Motion Picture Group chairman Adam Fogelson said:

James will be doing the detective work of the film in real time, on camera, to create real tension for this thriller. We like to support bold and innovative storytelling like My Son, and Claire could not be a more spectacular or exciting choice for this film which is certain to thrill audiences.

The French film featured the same storytelling technique and its director Christian Carion will return to helm the English-language remake as well. Production on the film is expected to kick off in Scotland early next month. As I haven't seen MON GARÇON for myself, I can't comment on how the technique affects the film, but I'm definitely intrigued.
