James McAvoy has never had much trouble playing it over the top and it looks like he’s settled into the level of intensity just fine for FILTH, an adaptation of TRAINSPOTTING author Irvine Welsh’s novel. It boils down to a mix between Danny Boyle‘s TRAINSPOTTING and Abel Ferrara‘s BAD LIEUTENANT (and maybe a little bit of BAD LIEUTENANT: PORT OF CALL), which could make for a damn fun (and potentially scary) time at the movies.
FILTH co-stars Imogen Poots, Eddie Marsan, and Jamie Bell, as well as Jim Broadbent, who kept waiting to hear a “Nicholas Angel” reference just from hearing his voice in another “cop” film. I could easily see McAvoy’s character teaming up for a HOT FUZZ sequel, which makes me that much more intrigued by this pic.
Get filthy:
Here’s the synopsis:
A bipolar bigoted junkie cop, manipulates and hallucinates his way through the festive season in a bid to secure promotion and win back his wife and daughter.
FILTH is set for release in the UK in September, but has not secured a U.S. release yet. Stay tuned.
