James Gunn updates fans on the status of the scripts for both Superman: Legacy and The Brave and the Bold

James Gunn’s development of the new Superman reboot and DCU kickstart, Superman: Legacy, wasn’t affected by the strikes as the writer and director of the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy was able to submit his screenplay just before the writers started their picketing. While the dual strikes were in effect, he was able to continue with the project purely with his director’s cap on. Pre-production is currently continuing in full force, and more and more news of casting is released, including a new Jimmy Olsen and Eve Teschmacher being cast with Skyler Gisondo and Sara Sampaio.

While Gunn concluded his initial script prior to the strikes, there were inevitable rewrites and additional drafts to be written after completion, as is done with nearly all screenplays. Now that the strikes have subsided, Gunn has been able to go back and work on his script. Recently, the frequently interactive director took to Threads to update fans on how it’s coming along, according to Deadline. Gunn says the most recent draft of his script is “99.9%” done and expounded, “I’m always changing small things but it’s been essentially done since well before the strike.”

Another fan asked Gunn if he could debunk some casting rumors that have been going around for his announced Batman movie, The Brave and the Bold. The rumors claimed that Jensen Ackles was cast to play Bruce Wayne and Batman, Javon Walton was allegedly set to play Damien Wayne and Robin, Wolfgang Novogratz as Dick Grayson and Nightwing and Clancy Brown as Alfred Pennyworth. Gunn would shoot down the rumors, saying, “There’s no script yet. Ofc it’s false.”

These updates come off the heels of Gunn recently posting a photo of his production office that showcases a wall full of art from Superman: For All Seasons, plus fans got a glimpse of David Corenswet as he works his way to a Superman build in a photo posted by his trainer on Instagram. Additionally, it was recently unveiled that Nicholas Hoult (who is a comic book film veteran, having portrayed Beast in the X-Men movies) had been cast as Superman’s famous rival, Lex Luthor.
