It appears Marvel Studios won't be attending San Diego Comic-Con 2015, which is kind of surprising considering the studio has used the event in the past to help build buzz for their upcoming projects. During a live Q&A on his Facebook, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY director James Gunn was asked if he'll be attending this year's SDCC, and he responded with "I'm not sure. Marvel isn't going so I'm not sure I will either."
"But wait, couldn't he be lying?" is probably what some of you are thinking, however Gunn later tweeted that he has "never lied about anything to the fans, ever." There is a chance the director was joking on Facebook, however it's not as if Marvel needs SDCC either.
Don't forget Marvel made their Phase 3 announcement independently instead of doing it through SDCC (or a different similar event), and perhaps the studio doesn't want to go up against Warner Bros. and BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE at this year's Comic-Con. I still think it's a little strange Marvel won't be at SDCC 2015 (especially since it would be the perfect time and place to announce who will be playing Spider-Man in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR), but maybe James Gunn is just messing with our heads and Marvel will have a panel at the event.
Marvel's AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON opens on May 1, 2015.
