Before GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 director James Gunn became a household name that's synonymous with the MCU, the multi-talented filmmaker revealed that he would have liked to have brought some more obscure ideas and pairings to Marvel's line of theatrical juggernauts.
During a recent Facebook Q&A, Gunn revealed that, "I wanted to do Hit Monkey. Like REALLY wanted to do it. I was also interested in doing a Hulk/Red Hulk film." Wait, Hit Monkey? Even I don't know that one. To the internet, Batman! Ah, okay, so it turns out that Hit Monkey is a suit-wearing, dual-pistol wielding monkey of all things. His first appearance was made in the pages of Deadpool #19-21, where he was portrayed as an expert marksman with martial arts skills, incredible agility and reflexes.
In regard to the Hulk/Red Hulk idea, this sounds to me like it's a bit more likely as opposed to a Hit Monkey film, but only just. The reason I say this is because, for quite some time, fans suspected that the Red Hulk character would indeed make an appearance in The Russo Brothers CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR. However, that film turned out to be entirely Hulk-less with Ruffalo's Bruce Banner presumably cruising the stars after the close of AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON and Red Hulk not showing up at all during Marvel's Cap versus Iron Man skirmish.
What do you all think? Personally, I can see General Ross transforming into the Red hulk sometime down the road, but I doubt very much that we'll ever see a Hit Monkey film grace the silver screen. It's possible that the Agent 47-like monkey could show up for a cameo in one of Gunn's future Marvel films, though if I were a betting man, I'd say that the ship has sailed for that as well.
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 is still playing in select theaters around the world. If you can find out where it's playing, why bot see it again?
