James Gunn is fresh off the release of The Suicide Squad for DC and now he’s back in Marvel’s orbit as he announces that production on Guardian of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has officially begun. He took to social media to announce that Guardians 3 filming is underway, with the cast members Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and more in the frame.
Gunn posted the official notice after weeks of pre-production teases from himself and the main cast on his Twitter page. Gunn’s caption reads, “It’s been a strange & long & at times challenging journey to get here, but the obstacles along the way have only made this moment more blissful. Back on set with my Guardians family for the first day of shooting. #gotgvol3” You can check out his Twitter post below!
Gunn’s road to Guardians 3 has been a challenging journey indeed. Back in the fall of 2018, Gunn was let go from the project following the emergence of some “offensive old tweets” from the filmmaker that resurfaced on social media. After Disney/Marvel parted ways with Gunn, Warner Bros./DC swooped him up to direct The Suicide Squad. Soon enough, Disney/Marvel reunited with Gunn and he was allowed to come back for the third Guardians of the Galaxy film but they had to wait for him to wrap up production on the DC project before he was able to get back to work on Guardians. In the end, Gunn essentially won big time because he was then allowed to have two blockbusters from two comic book brands under his belt.
Are YOU excited to hear Guardians 3 filming is officially underway? The film hits screens on May 5, 2023.
