Though it's rapidly approaching its bumped-up date of this May, and we have seen a bunch of new images for it, there are still plenty of mysteries surrounding ALIEN: COVENANT. Just as soon as we thought we were getting closer to uncovering all the secrets behind Ridley Scott’s upcoming sci-fi flick, a new bomb has just been dropped on our laps, this time in the form of new casting. Needless to say this casting is…certainly mysterious.
News is that none other than the Guy Who is Everywhere All the Time, James Franco, has just boarded the upcoming flick in an unknown role. Seeing as how the film must be close to wrapping up, though, we can only assume the actor will have a brief cameo to say hello before being devoured by a Xenomorph.
In all seriousness it’s a total head-scratcher as to who he could be playing, as the main crew has already been cast, including Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, Billy Crudup and more. Rumors have been swirling from other sources around his casting, and to who he would be playing, but so far all of those are unsubstantiated as Franco's casting has just been made official.
Though Franco seems to treat his movie choices like a chicken with his head cut off, he’s usually a pretty reliable performer. I don’t think we’ll be seeing anything too over-the-top like his character in SPRING BREAKERS, and I’m expecting more of his “everyman” persona to take over. I trust Scott to do something interesting with him, at the least. I'm just gonna point out that Franco has a new movie out today called WHY HIM? Seems appropriate.
ALIEN: COVENANT is set for May 19.
