Empire recently had a conversation with director James Cameron about his upcoming AVATAR sequels, and although he (of course) didn't reveal any plot details, did say “They’re gonna be bitchin" and "You will shit yourself with your mouth wide open" when asked about the storylines for the films.
James Cameron also says although he was interested in filming the sequels at 60 frames per second, he's going to go with 48 FPS, just like Peter Jackson with his THE HOBBIT movies.
My thinking at the time was that 60 [FPS] might be a better segue to the video market. I’ll be plugging into a system that’s a little more mature, so it makes sense for me to do 48 frames at this point.
The director goes on to say he met with screenwriters Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Josh Friedman and Shane Salerno for seven months and "whiteboarded out every scene in every film together." Cameron also told Empire he "didn’t assign each writer which film they were going to work on until the last day," and joked "I knew if I assigned them their scripts ahead of time, they’d tune out every time we were talking about the other movie."
We should be hearing more about the AVATAR sequels in the very near future. Last we knew James Cameron was still planning on starting production on them next month in New Zealand, and AVATAR 2 will hit theaters December 2016.
