James Cameron’s Piranha II: The Spawning Collector’s Edition Blu-ray specs

I have never seen James Cameron's first feature film PIRANHA II: THE SPAWNING. I don't know why. Never gave it too much thought before today. But now that the film has been brought back to my attention, I'm going to check it out asap. I mean it has to be worth at least a "well, this is encouraging, everyone starts somewhere" vibe, you know?

That said, if you're a fan of Cameron's first flick then you'll be pleased to know that Scream Factory is bringing the sequel to Joe Dante's classic PIRANHA to Collector's Edition Blu-ray in January 2018.

**NEW TITLE ANNOUNCEMENT **

Look what’s swimming to Blu-ray this in 2018. PIRANHA II: THE SPAWNING – Director James Cameron’s first feature film from 1981 – will be landing on January 30th in the U.S. and Canada and we have some early details for you today! 

• This will be branded as a “Collector’s Edition” that will come with a slipcover (guaranteed for three months after its original release date)

• We are implementing a change of our normal practice regarding the artwork strategy on this one. Normally we would commission a new illustrated piece and then provide the original theatrical poster on the reverse. In this case, the already-existing illustrated international key art that you see featured here (which was also used for the domestic VHS release) was so pitch perfect and iconic to the film that we felt it would be a challenge to try to improve upon so we made an exception here. Plus, the theatrical U.S. poster also had a cool design that we wanted to use as well somehow…so that image will be on the reverse. (Image in the thread below) 

• Extras and specs are still in progress and will be announced at a later date. However, we can confirm that we will be doing a brand new HD film transfer (finally presented in its proper aspect ratio) and it is the uncut version that was previously seen on the previous DVD release.

As the body count rises, Anne desperately tries to convince the manager of the resort to call off the annual fish fry on the beach, but he's determined to give his guests the ultimate feeding frenzy. This exciting sequel to Joe Dante's original Piranha also stars Lance Henriksen (Aliens, The Terminator) and is the directorial debut of James Cameron (Avatar, The Terminator, Aliens).
