The Daniel Craig era of James Bond has been put to rest in a definite fashion. In the past, when actors decide to hang up their Walther PPKs and their Vodka Martinis, there is a period of fan theories and brainstorming on who could adopt the 007 moniker. Recently, EON Production heads Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson had spoken about the stipulations of finding their next Bond. The biggest quality to them is the level of commitment and dedication an actor will need to have.
The New York Post reports that one of the producers has taken age into account since they aim to have a Bond for a few movies which could span a decade or more. At a Bond event at the British Film Institute, Michael G. Wilson outlines,
We’ve tried looking at younger people in the past. But trying to visualize it doesn’t work. Remember, Bond’s already a veteran. He’s had some experience. He’s a person who has been through the wars, so to speak. He’s probably been in the SAS or something. He isn’t some kid out of high school that you can bring in and start off. That’s why it works for a thirty-something.”
The popular choices for Bond, ranging from Idris Elba and Tom Hardy, do not fit the bill as they are respectively 50 and 45. Daniel Craig was 38 when he took over for Pierce Brosnan, and years of delays and rights issues would cause large gaps in between movies. Craig would grow weary of the stunts and the character and had thought about leaving the franchise a couple of times.
As he makes the rounds for his new film, Black Adam, former James Bond, Pierce Brosnan showed his indifference towards the future of the franchise as the actor seems to have moved on from that phase of his life. When asked about who he thinks should be cast next, the actor responded, “Who should do it? I don’t care. It’ll be interesting to see who they get, who the man shall be. Whoever he be, I wish him well.”
