Riding on the heels of the recent news that “EastEnders” actor Sam Strike will star in Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo’s LEATHERFACE as the young titular character, is word that James Bloor is in final negotiations to join Strike in the film. This news comes from The Wrap, who reports that the INSIDE tandem’s prequel is presented as a mystery of sorts about three teenage psychopaths, one of whom grows up to be Leatherface.
Bloor will play Ike, a budding young maniac who, like Strike’s character, also grows up to potentially wield the iconic chainsaw. That’s two down, one to go. Who will be the third maniac? So does that mean Strike might not actually be Leatherface? I’m so confused. I can’t tell if they’re just trying to keep it a secret as to who is playing Leatherface in the film, or if the entire story hinges on that very idea—who is Leatherface? If that’s the case, this just got a lot more interesting.
Even more exciting (and less confusing) news is that none other than Angela Bettis (below) will star in the film as Verna, Leatherface’s mother, reports Bloody Disgusting. What a sweet mom she must be—chainsaws and virgins for Christmas! That’s all for now, folks, so hang in there for more on this one.
Carl Mazzocone is producing LEATHERFACE with Christa Campbell and Lati Grobman after they successfully resurrected the franchise in 2013. Les Weldon is also a producer on the project, which is being executive produced by Millennium’s Avi Lerner, Trevor Short, Boaz Davidson, John Thompson, Mark Gill and Beth Bruckner O’Brien.
