Apple TV wins bidding war for Jake Gyllenhaal’s adaptation of Snow Blind

Update – According to Deadline, Apple TV has come out ahead in the highly competitive bidding war to acquire SNOW BLIND.

Jake Gyllenhaal (SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME) is set to star in SNOW BLIND, an adaptation of the graphic novel by Ollie Masters and Tyler Jenkins, and according to Deadline, the project has received "multiple bids" from various sources.

Described as PRISONERS meets RUNNING ON EMPTY, the tense noir story is set in the bleak, snow-covered landscape of Alaska and follows a high-school teenager who discovers that his family has secretly been in the Witness Protection Program for years and that someone set on revenge is now tracking them down. Danish filmmaker Gustav Möller (THE GUILTY) is set to make his English-language directorial debut with the film which will be scripted by Patrick Ness (A MONSTER CALLS). In this era of social-distancing, Deadline says that potential buyers have received a video pitch from Möller and Gyllenhaal, followed up by the Zoom meetings which seem to have become a part of our daily lives at this point.

For high school teen Teddy, life in a sleepy suburb in Alaska turns upside-down when he innocently posts a photo of his dad on Facebook, only to learn he and his family are in the Witness Protection Program. A man seeking revenge invades their town, and soon FBI agents arrive, too. But what if his dad's reasons for going into the program aren't as innocent as he says?

Jake Gyllenhaal has several projects in the works in addition to SNOW BLIND, as he's also set to produce and star in a big-screen adaptation of Tom Clancy's The Division. The film is slated to take place in "the near future where a pandemic virus is spread via paper money on Black Friday, decimating the city of New York and killing millions. By Christmas, what’s left of society has descended into chaos. A group of civilians, trained to operate in catastrophic times, are activated in an attempt to save who and what remains." That synopsis takes on a bit of a different tone in the current climate, doesn't it? Gyllenhaal was also slated to star in a remake of Gustav Möller's THE GUILTY, but it's been well over a year since we heard about the project.
