Jake Gyllenhaal may have perished by his own hand (well, drone) as Mysterio, but it would seem his greatest weakness is wing-eating etiquette, as he called out fellow MCUer Elizabeth Olsen over her daintier habits.
Jake Gyllenhaal appeared on the most recent episode of First We Feast’s Hot Ones partly to promote his new movie, Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant. While moving up the Scoville scale and somehow suffering leg cramps, Jake Gyllenhaal observed a few non-food items around the table (that is, not tasty wings and a pitcher of milk), including Wet Ones and toothpicks. “People aren’t allowed to [do that]! Who fucking used Wet Ones? What is that? Fuck that! What asshole used a toothpick?”
When Sean Evans revealed that it was Elizabeth Olsen, Jake Gyllenhaal quickly pulled back. “Oh, sorry, Elizabeth! She’s like the literally least asshole I’ve ever met so I’m sorry! Absolutely I’m walking that back.” He then requested 14 Apollos as punishment, referring to the episode’s “last dab” hot sauce, the final challenge put forth to all guests. He wisely did not follow through…
While Jake Gyllenhaal and Elizabeth Olsen have never worked together on the big screen, they are both part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Gyllenhaal took the role of Quentin Beck aka Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home, while Olsen has been playing Wanda Maximoff since 2014, appearing in six movies (including her cameo debut in Captain America: The Winter Soldier) and, of course, Disney+’s WandaVision, which has rightly earned her recognition from the likes of the Emmys and the Golden Globes.
While professional wing-eating competitions do tend to have strict rules like no vomiting, general wing etiquette can be a hot debate between connoisseurs. Wet wipes? Those are for babies! Gripping your pint glass open-palmed for a sip of beer? You’re an embarrassment! And apparently, at least according to Jake Gyllenhaal, toothpick usage is an especially big no-no, even as it pertains to Elizabeth Olsen…although he may be careful with his epithets going forward.
As far as upcoming projects that Jake Gyllenhaal and Elizabeth Olsen could promote if they’re invited back to Hot Ones, Gyllenhaal has gotten ripped for the Road House remake and Olsen will tackle true crime in HBO’s Love & Death.
