Gyllenhaal made his inaugural post to Instagram yesterday with a short video of him reading a Spider-Man comic featuring the villain Mysterio, which he was rumored to be playing back in May. If the set pics of him in a dope ass cape and costume didn’t prove his role was legit, this video seals the deal when it dawns on him that he’s playing the baddie with a fishbowl head, resulting in a shocked, "What the f—!"

A report broke back in the summer that Gyllenhaal would be playing the main villain in the new Spidey movie, but it remained a mystery for some time. The actor has been favoring more dramatic roles in movies like NIGHTCRAWLER, PRISONERS, SOUTHPAW and this year’s WILDLIFE, so a role in a big comic book movie seemed like a departure. However, a set video and pics of him in action while filming in the Czech Republic confirmed his role, and now we can all eagerly wait and see what dark, f**ked up nature he brings to Quentin Beck, the visual effects guru who goes after Spider-Man.
A lot is being kept close to the chest regarding FAR FROM HOME, one reason being that’s often the case with Marvel movies and the other being that Spider-Man is currently, you know, dead in the MCU. Still, we have seen several videos and pictures from the set and star Tom Holland showed off the new suit on Jimmy Kimmel’s show not too long ago. Now, the trailer is expected to drop on Saturday, and though we probably won’t see much there could be a tease of Gyllenhaal’s villain.
I guess we will have to wait and see in a few days, so be sure to tune back in when that trailer drops!
SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME is in theaters July 5, 2019.
