Jake Gyllenhaal and director Denis Villeneuve must really enjoy working together, because the pairing is partnering up for their third project together – following ENEMY and PRISONERS – to adapt Jo Nesbo’s crime novel THE SON for the big screen.
Nine Stories, the production company Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker created, will produce in tandem with Bold Films, in order to tell the story of a promising 15-year-old wrestler whose life hits hard times when his dad commits suicide. After he winds up in prison and serves 12 years, he learns of the true circumstances of his father's death and goes out looking for some retribution.
In a statement, Marker was excited about what the project brings to their company: “Denis is one of the most inspiring filmmakers working today, and partnering with him on The Son represents everything that Jake and I strived for when we launched the company. Provocative and edgy material in collaboration with a visionary storyteller. We were attracted to The Son because beneath its dark and violent exterior is a universal story about a man who seeks the truth."
Both Gyllenhaal and Villeneuve have been doing tremendous work as of late, and, when together, they produce terrific results. Therefore, seeing them working with each other again can only mean good things for all of us.
