Just hours after it was announced that Neil Patrick Harris will be joining returning franchise stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, as well as fellow new addition Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, in THE MATRIX 4, word broke that Jada Pinkett Smith is in negotiations to join the cast as well.
If Pinkett Smith's deal is closed, she will be reprising the role of Niobe, who she played in THE MATRIX RELOADED and THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS. A character that MATRIX creators the Wachowskis wrote with Pinkett Smith specifically in mind.
I don't remember Niobe very well, but I don't remember much about RELOADED and REVOLUTIONS in general. If you have also forgotten,
Niobe is from Zion, and the captain of the Logos hovercraft. She’s also one of the rebels in the war against the Machines and the Matrix. In the virtual world of the Matrix, Niobe is a gifted martial artist.
While all three previous MATRIX films were written and directed by both Lana and Lilly Wachowski, Lilly is not working on THE MATRIX 4. Lana will be directing the film and has written the screenplay with Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell.
The film is being produced by Grant Hill.
