As most of you might know – and have probably forgotten – there is a remake of JACOB'S LADDER heading our way in the future via screenwriter Jeff Buhler, who is best known for penning horror hits such as Clive Barker's MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN and Stephen King's PET SEMATARY. Well, today we have word on just when the hell you'll be able to check out this new version of JACOB'S LADDER (if you feel the need).
Vertical Entertainment has snatched up the U.S. rights to LD Entertainment’s re-imaginationing of the 1990 thriller. The flick will premiere on DISH exclusively this July, followed by a theatrical release in August. International rights are up for sale at the 2019 Cannes Film Market via The Exchange.
We haven't seen so much as a poster or a teaser for the film, but we do know that the MPAA has slapped the remake with an R-rating for "language, some violence, sexuality and drug content." So, you know, that's something.
In Rosenthal’s remake:
Jacob Singer is getting his life back together after his brother is killed in Afghanistan. Jacob has a beautiful wife, a newborn child and a successful career as surgeon in a VA hospital. When a stranger approaches Jacob and reveals that his brother is actually alive and living in an underground shelter with other homeless vets, Jacob’s life starts to unravel. He begins hallucinating, believes he is being followed by violent attackers and becomes paranoid about the truth of what really happened to his brother. When he discovers that his brother is alive and addicted to an experimental drug, he uncovers a secret he never could have been prepared for.
The original film was directed by Adrian Lyne (FATAL ATTRACTION) from a screenplay written by Bruce Joel Rubin (GHOST) and this new film hails to us from director David M. Rosenthal (THE PERFECT GUY) and screenwriters Jeff Buhler (MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN, PET SEMATARY remake) and Sarah Thorp. The psychological horror remake stars Michael Ealy, Jesse Williams, Nicole Beharie, Karla Souza and Guy Burnet.
We'll let you know as soon as a trailer and/or poster hit. Until then let us know what you think thus far below!
