Kim Masters recently published an article on her “Daily Beast” blog questioning Sony head Amy Pascal’s published motives for putting the kibosh on MONEYBALL, Steven Soderbergh’s biopic on Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beane starring Brad Pitt. Masters finds a conflict in shutting down MONEYBALL yet giving Clooney, a mediocre box office performer when not going by the name Danny Ocean, a development deal and supporting a James L. Brooks romantic comedy centering on…drumroll please…baseball.
At the tail end of this pretty interesting piece, she drops this little nugget: “Clooney also appears to be looking for his next commercial opportunity now that the Ocean’s franchise seems to be played out. A source says he expressed interest in playing Jack Ryan when and if Paramount attempts to revive the Tom Clancy series. Clooney seems to recognize that at this time in the world and this time in his life (he’s pushing 50), it’s time for some commercial maintenance.” Interesting but weren’t they supposed to be focusing on a young Jack Ryan? Isn’t that the thing to do these days? Read the full piece over HERE.
