Fresh off the news that a new Batman animated series was given a straight-to-series order at HBO Max and Cartoon Network, more DC animated news has come in as it has been announced that a new Superman animated series has received a two-season order with The Boys' Jack Quaid fronting the project.
Jack Quaid will offer up his vocal talents as the titular hero in My Adventures with Superman. The animated series will follow the adventures of Superman and Lois Lane (Alice Lee) and will feature Clark Kent (Quaid) and his lady love as twenty-somethings as they begin to discover who they are and everything they can accomplish together as an investigative reporting team at the Daily Planet. They'll be joined by their best friend Jimmy Olsen and the show will see Clark building his secret identity as Superman while embracing his role as the hero of Metropolis, and perhaps the world. Lois Lane will take aspiring photographer Jimmy Olsen under her wing as she grows into a star investigative journalist and, as a couple, Clark and Lois are falling in love, sharing adventures, taking down bad guys, stumbling over secrets, and discovering what it means to be Superman and Lois Lane. Sam Register, President of Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network Studios, had this to say about the project:
"It’s been a great partnership working with Cartoon Network and HBO Max to bring more DC Super Heroes to the platform in new and creatively interesting ways. This is the first animated Superman series in many years and we want to tell our Superman story through the trio of Clark, Lois and Jimmy – whose relationship dynamic will allow for rich, serialized and engaging stories as we explore their lives as individuals and their journey together as friend."
HBO Max has found great success with the Harley Quinn animated series so it comes as no surprise that Batman and Superman are getting the animated treatment at the streamer. Batman: Caped Crusader sounds a bit darker in nature than My Adventures with Superman which sounds like it's going to skew a bit younger and lighter but they'll both likely have fans clamoring for some new animated adventures with their favorite heroes.
