It's been some time since we last saw Jack Nicholson headline a film, but now Variety reports that the actor is set to star in an English-language remake of Maren Ade's TONI ERDMANN. Woohoo!
The outlet reports that Paramount Pictures have acquired the remake rights to the German film and that Jack Nicholson is attached to play the main character. TONI ERDMANN, which was recently landed an Oscar nod for Best Foreign Language Film, follows a practical joking father who attempts to reconnect with his hard-working daughter by creating an outrageous alter ego and posing as her CEO's life coach. So, plenty of opportunities for Nicholson to bring the crazy. No word on who will be playing his daughter. Maren Ade, writer and director of the original TONI ERDMANN, will be on-board as an executive producer along with Adam McKay and Will Ferrell.
Jack Nicholson last appeared in James L. Brooks' HOW DO YOU KNOW all the way back in 2010, so it's certainly good to have him back. Nicholson was a big fan of TONI ERDMAN and approached Paramount himself with the idea to star in it, which quickly got the ball rolling for the studio to secure the rights.
