Lest we forget, JURASSIC WORLD is one of the biggest movies of all time – the fourth biggest, actually. The movie’s performance exceeded all expectations by a mile, and as a result, the bar has been raised that much higher for the sequel. Director of FALLEN KINGDOM, J.A. Bayona, is certainly up to the task and has just teased that we’ll see things in this movie that we’ve never seen in a JURASSIC movie before. I’m just gonna skip ahead and assume it’s Chris Pratt riding a Triceratops.
In anticipation of their big preview issue, Empire revealed a snippet from a recent interview with Bayona, in which he teased that the movie opens with a massive action set piece. Not only is it big, but it may even remind us of another classic action franchise:
Fallen Kingdom starts with a massive action piece that feels like a James Bond prologue. And in the centre there is the biggest set-piece ever done for a Jurassic movie.
According to the film’s synopsis, the movie will find Owen Grady (Pratt), Clarie Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) and more trying to save the dinosaurs on Island Nublar from an impending volcanic eruption. As we saw in the trailer, the volcanic activity will be massive, and will probably see the destruction of the whole island.
On top of the quote, a new image was dropped for the movie and one that adds detail to the scene from the trailer in which Howard and Justice Smith's characters are hiding from dinosaurs in one of those big rolly-ball devices. This looks like the dinosaur that eventually gets eaten by the T-Rex, so if you think he's being a total creeper by eye-balling them, don't worry, he's about to get his.
There's really no point in continuing to talk about how JW wasn't as great of a movie as it could've been. I feel like we've all crossed that bridge more than once. But that doesn't mean I don't have faith in Bayona to bring us an exciting, and maybe even scary, adventure. At the very least the story seems different than past films in the series, which all find humans outrunning escaped dinosaurs. This time the stakes are greater with an action-packed plot that pits the characters, and dinosaurs, against a serious ticking clock.
JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM arrives June 22, 2018.
