When the dumpster fire that was STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS released in theaters on August 15, 2008 I don't think anyway expected the ensuing television show to be a success. Yet despite one of the worst iterations of STAR WARS this side of Caravan of Courage, each season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars got better. It expanded the mythology and provided STAR WARS fans some of the best storylines in the franchise. After five seasons on The Cartoon Network, the program ended abruptly in March of 2013 only to return for a sixth season the following year on Netflix.
Although the sixth season was seemingly the end of the series, several plot lines were left dangling. This was particularly true of Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker's padawan who left the Jedi Order. In a move that delighted STAR WARS fans the world over however, Disney+ graciously decided to reinstate the series for a seventh and final season. With just a month out from the last season, the Dave Filoni creation just got a brand new trailer and it's powerful enough to make Master Yoda speak correctly.
Seriously this trailer has everything a Star Wars: The Clone Wars fan could ask for. Incredible space battles, a vast army of droids and clones,Obi-Wan and Mace Windu kicking all kinds of ass – it's all here. There's also a sense of foreboding that permeates this entire trailer, everything from the eerie opening voiceover, to the REVENGE OF THE SITH-esque music. In addition, the final season promises an epic battle between Darth Maul and Ahsoka Tano. Although I've never gotten the chance to watch the series, this trailer is enough to make me finally take the plunge.
So what did you guys think of the trailer? Does it spark joy? Did you watch the series when it first debuted? How will it all play out? Let us know in the comments below!
The final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars drops out of hyperspace and on to Disney+ February 21.
