Sadly, G.I. JOE: RETALIATION is my most anticipated movie for March, seeing as it’s a month full of “meh.” However, as a child of the ’80’s who grew up on the 3.75″ figures and accompanying comics by Larry Hama, my hope for someone to make a fitting tribute to that era still glimmers. Stephen Sommer’s first entry, G.I. JOE: RISE OF COBRA was a slap in the face to fans like me, crushing all hope of seeing a worthwhile ‘Joe film. Now, after a nearly year-long delay to upconvert to 3D, John Chu (director of the STEP UP films) has come aboard to potentially deliver the film we deserve. Of course, that may not be a good thing.
Today, we have a clip of two of the most popular characters in G.I. Joe history, Snake-Eyes and Storm Shadow, duking it out in true ninja fashion. It’s not the whole fight, but enough to give you an idea of what we’ll get on the big screen. I wouldn’t say it colored me impressed, but it does give me hope that, at the very least, this could be a fun ride that doesn’t take a steaming dump on the cheesy goodness that was my ‘Joe childhood.
Watch for ninjas:
