X-fans (that would be fans of The X-Files, not X-Men fans) can rest easy now as official word has dropped that David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson and series creator Chris Carter are back! Talk has ramped up this past year about a possible reunion of sorts and what seemed too good to be true is coming to fruition. FBI agents Mulder and Scully will return in a 6-episode series event. It's been over a decade since the show has ended, but Chris Carter stated, "I think of it as a 13-year commercial break. The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.” No other cast or story details have been revealed, but production will begin this summer.
The X-Files was one of the first TV shows I remember there being a huge fandom for when I was growing up. While I've yet to complete the series myself (I'm on it, trust me!), there's no denying the effect the show and it's characters had on the masses. Any return of The X-Files, even in limited form, is a welcome one. I'm curious to see if this may lead into another show and/or film, but that's just me getting ahead of myself. For now, it's time to celebrate!
Production on the 6-episode X-Files series event will begin this summer.
