It's Halloween! And there's no better time watch horror movies! Except maybe on dates, or getting drunk with friends, or when you're alone and bored and have to distract yourself from the existential crisis your life has become.
Anyway, here's a new trailer for the black-and-white art house horror film THE EYES OF THE MOTHER. Let's have a look-see, shall we? Before the voices in our heads remind us of our life choices:
Well, that was certainly creepy. While not scary per se, it was definitely unnerving. It is going for more mood and atmosphere than any kind of excessive gore or jump scares, which it accomplishes with aplomb (and is honestly much appreciated). Another big part of that is how little context we're given in the trailer, which makes us fill in the blanks with our imaginations.
Either way, here's the full synopsis:
Francisca (Kika Magalhaes) has been unfazed by death from an early age because her mother, formerly a surgeon in Portugal, imbued her with a thorough understanding of the human anatomy. When tragedy shatters her family's idyllic life in the countryside, her deep trauma gradually awakens some unique curiosities. As she grows up, her desire to connect with the world around her takes a distinctly dark form.
Well, putting that in context makes it more creepy, not less. I'm most definitely interested in this now.
THE EYES OF THE MOTHER will haunt theaters December 2nd, 2016. Just in time for Hallowe — I mean Christmas.
