Star and co-creator of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Rob McElhennery, has closed a deal with Legendary Pictures to write and direct family-friendly action film FIGMENT. McElhenney apparently wowed executives with a four-minute test reel that he compiled along with a 20-minute pitch on the story. Word on the street is that Legendary made a seven-figure commitment to acquire the story about an imaginative boy and his family whose world turns upside down when their greatest fears come to life. Evidently this type of film falls in line with the large-scale adventure pictures that Legendary has been focusing on lately (GODZILLA 2, SKULL ISLAND).
In order to land a deal with FX to actually make It's Always Sunny, the four stars of the show (Rob McElhenney, Glenn Howerton, Charlie Day and Jordan Reid) whipped together a short pilot shot on a digital camera. McElhenney is no stranger to going the extra mile to make what he wants, although given the hilarious unlike-ability of all the characters from It's Always Sunny, I'm fascinated to see what ideas he has for a family-friendly adventure film.
Rob McElhenney's partner and co-star on Sunny, Charlie Day, can next be seen in HORRIBLE BOSSES 2 which hits theaters on November 26, 2014.
