It took them long enough: Joe Carnahan to write and direct Motorcade

Good news today, Joe Carnahan has closed a deal with Dreamworks to write and direct MOTORCADE. The long gestating project has been around for years with both Ryan Reynolds and Tom Cruise finding themselves attached to the picture at various points.

The story will revolve around terrorists attacking the U.S. president’s motorcade as it navigates through Los Angeles. I’m immediately hoping that the entire film takes place on the road with action scenes moving from car to car, similar to what we’ve been promised with MAD MAX: FURY ROAD.

The notoriously outspoken director, who once fired off a great email to MGM President Jonathan Glickman following the failed DEATH WISH remake, hasn’t had a mainstream project since 2012’s THE GREY. His most recent work, STRETCH, ended up being dropped by Universal Pictures and Carnahan ended up taking it upon himself to promote the film when it couldn’t find a new home.

I was initially worried that the premise wouldn't seem quite as fresh anymore (or maybe it never was) following the release of similarly themed "President in trouble" films OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN and WHITE HOUSE DOWN; but if history has shown us anything, it's that we love to eat up mindless Presidential action. Who would you like to see tackle the role of President in peril this time?
