Well, there’s some VERY interesting pictures floating around from the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 set, so let’s get to it! It’s been rumored that fan-favorite Nathan Fillion might be taking a small part in the James Gunn-directed sequel, and the following confirms it. Thanks to ComicBook.com, via Jonathan Hunter, there are some set-pictures showing Fillion in the role of Simon Williams. So who the hell is Simon Williams?
In short, Simon Williams (also known as Wonder Man), was part of a group called the Masters of Evil before reforming and joining the Avengers. After a time, he decided to drop the superhero bit and explore an acting career. It looks as if this is the Wonder Man we might see in GUARDIANS 2, if at all. These set-pictures show off a Simon Williams film festival, with several posters fearing Fillion’s face on them. Take a look!
Now, for all we know, this could just be a very brief Easter Egg thrown into the film. I certainly wouldn’t put it past Gunn to go to these lengths to include such a beloved actor, but also take note that this means we’ll see Earth at some point in the film. That raises all sorts of exciting questions. Will the Guardians actually go to Earth? Will they interact with any other Marvel heroes there? Gunn has stated that this film will not be setting up INFINITY WARS at all, but perhaps we’ll see a glimpse of what to expect from the Guardians visiting our planet. In any case, this opens up some exciting possibilities!
