A few days ago, Warner Bros and New Line debuted some fresh footage at CinemaCon from director Andres Muschietti's upcoming adaptation of Stephen King's IT: CHAPTER TWO and today we have a rundown on just what they shared. This info comes to us from a video our own Paul Shirly put out there from his time at CinemaCon. Let it be known here and now that what follows is a description of a scene that was screened and the teaser trailer that was shown. Needless to say beyond this point:
HERE THERE BE SPOILERS.
First, let's talk about the extended scene they screened. The extended scene is one all fans of the book (and the ABC miniseries) will know all too well. It features adult Beverly Marsh (played here by Jessica Chastain) going back to her childhood home to find that her father has died and now a kindly old woman lives there. The woman invites Beverly in for tea and all seems good to go. Again, this is straight from the book and the miniseries.
But then it changes a bit and goes much darker. In the CinemaCon clip, after Beverly enters the apartment she then goes to her old bedroom and pulls out the postcard Ben gave her as a kid. You know the one about Winter Fire and Burning there too. Anyhow, as she's looking at the card, the old woman is standing in the hallway behind her. The old woman then does some kind of weird dance move shit and disappears into another room.
Creepy as hell.
From there Beverly is invited back to the living room where the old woman serves her tea and puts on some strange old-timey music. The old lady then says she's feeling hot and basically straight up flashes her old boobs at Beverly. A timer then goes off and the old crone goes to the kitchen to get some cookies. Yeah, right. Beverly knows something is up and tries to leave. Then the lights go out in the kitchen and the old woman starts to speak to Beverly from the darkness. She asks Beverly if she is still a daddy's girl and tells her that she is a daddy's girl too.
Get this – she says her father worked in the circus. Beverly then turns to see a picture of Pennywise standing with a little girl in an old time photo. Turns out this old lady is Pennywise's daughter! Or you know something like that. Anyways, from there the old woman gets fully nude and starts dancing around. Cut to black. You won't see any of THAT in the ABC miniseries!
END OF SPOILERS
From there the audience was then treated to a short teaser trailer which shows the adult Losers Club coming together and some flashbacks to the original kid cast. Pennywise giggles. And then it cuts to some kind of sports field where a little girl stands all alone. Pennywise comes out of the darkness and gets right in the little girl's face. Boom. Cue main title card. This info comes to us from a video our own Paul Shirey put out there at CinemaCon. You can check out the full video yourself right over HERE.
